Is A Carnivore Diet A Ketogenic One?

🤔Is A Carnivore Diet A Ketogenic One? 🤔

The carnivore diet is ketogenic until you eat too much meat in one sitting, at which point you might be kicked out of ketosis.

The reason?

Certain amino acids are gluconeogenic which will cause you to be booted out from ketosis.

That's completely normal and actually required as your kidneys will start leaking electrolytes if they don't receive an insulin response among other things such as thyroid function, metabolic rate etc.

After you've absorbed the amino acids you'll then be back into ketosis and the cycle repeats.

The "Booted from ketosis cycle" - Eat ENOUGH meat in one sitting -> appropriate insulin response -> healthy af - repeat.

(It's actually one of the main reasons why eating smaller meals per day is not good for you as you don't receive a proper insulin response as you don't eat enough meat in one sitting to trigger it.)

Being in a ketogenic state long-term is actually harmful and is not ancestry-appropriate.

I remember measuring my ketones using those ketone strips religiously 3 years ago when I was on a keto diet. Knowing what I now know I cringe at that thought.

By the way, those ketone strips aren't even accurate as they only measure the ketones you urinate out, not the level floating around in your blood.

I'll insert a video below of Professor Bart Kay explaining why in more detail than I ever could explain:
